Modules and tentative schedule

General Info

The course will cover fundamental topics in computational genomics and RNA biology. There will be theoretical lectures followed by practical sessions where students directly apply what they have learned. The data analysis part will be mainly done on Galaxy platform, therefore there is no strict requirement for prior knowledge of programming. Although, prior knowledge of basic statistics and modeling will be useful for some modules. The course will be beneficial for first year computational biology PhD students, and experimental biologists and medical scientists who want to begin data analysis or are seeking a better understanding of computational genomics and RNA Biology. Here is a link to an article about a similar course we organized in 2015.

Duration and Structure

The lectures and practicals will be held Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 6pm. Lectures are followed by hands-on exercises to apply what candidates have just learnt. There will also be additional scientific lectures showcasing application of computational genomics in current research projects. A computer room with preset workstations will be provided. There will be one afternoon (mid-week) reserved for a social group activity

Other instructors

The following instructors will also take part in the teaching activties.

Application

Application deadline: 02 July 2017 (extended 1 day)

Candidates must apply by filling in the online form (applications closed). Please write an abstract about current research interest and projects (max 1000 words) and answer the technical experience questions honestly. This will help us to adjust the content of the course better to the participants. Based on the abstracts some candidates may be selected for a poster presentation.

There will also be questions on technical experience. These questions will help us organize a better course that is adjusted to applicant competencies. So, it is important you fill in those questions truthfully.

Cost

A course fee of 100 EUR will be charged to cover printed materials, lunch and snacks during the course. Payment details will be e-mailed to the candidates accepted to the course.

Travel and Accomodation

We offer an accomodation allowance for covering the accommodation costs (for double rooms) for successful candidates. Candidates must pay for their own travel expenses.
